Stealing Buddha's Dinner: Author Information

I've researched Bich Minh, who actually has her indirect Twitter name being "Beth"

So She has come to further outwardly Americanize herself. But I suppose the fact that she has a Twitter account might also prove that point.

Bich's posts are generally happy and lighthearted. She doesn't post on heavy topics on her social media account. But does post things she see's and states her opinions on them.

A couple of posts she seems to have been offended on. She had read an article of which she responded to, because a someone chose not to hire a woman of "birthing age" because she might not hold the job for as long as she wanted. Bich felt this was offensive and discriminatory. So I suppose this post of her's suggests that she still feels a connection with discrimination.

Most of her posts have to do with who, I assume is her son. She posts pictures, and comments on funny things that he says. She refers to him as "4yo" Which I think means 4 year old. So she has her own little normal life.

She also is really involved with universities it seems. There are many posts mentioning Berkeley, and I saw a post about UW Madison too, (whoot, whoot!)

Overall she just seems to be super involved and interested in what's going on around her. Which explains why she might have been so inclined to write a memoir. She is very aware of what goes on around her, and is eager to share her thoughts with everyone.

I Think that her presence on social media really reflects a growth in her personally. She isn't afraid to "discuss" subjects that others might have differing opinions on. She has an opinion and is sure on many things. In Stealing Buddha's Dinner, what she believed seemed to always be in question.

  1. Do you think her greater outspokenness on twitter is a reflection of her age? Most of the memoir is a reflection of her childhood and young adulthood--did she feel like she could speak her own truths at that time?

  2. I like the fact that you addresses her getting offended by hurtful comments. People today often forget that there is a person behind the screen and I find it empowering that she stood up to negative comments. I'm sure discrimination is still constant in her life.
